The Gloves come off in the War of words:

Washington: The Gauntlet has been brought in the heated battle of words. Recently on CNN’s Reliable Source White House Communications Director Anita Dunn blasted cable news giant FOX News Channel saying  “Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party.” Dunn also goes on to say “Let’s not pretend they’re a news network”. The Obama Administration has in the past bypass FOX on Interviews including the recent health care media blitz Obama went on the Sunday Morning Talk Shows. FOX News later responded to Dunn’s remark by releasing a statement “An increasing number of viewers are relying on FOX News for both news and opinion. And the average news consumer can certainly distinguish between the A-section of the newspaper and the editorial page, which is what our programming represents. So, with all due respect to anyone who might still be confused about the difference between news reporting and vibrant opinion, my suggestion would be to talk about the stories and the facts, rather than attack the messenger…which over time, has never worked.” FOX News has seen a unprecedented surge in ratings since Obama been in office often beating the other cable news channels 2-1. So who’s right in this? and should the White House put in time to spar with FOX News Channel? You decide.

Update: It appears that the war of words between the White House and FOX News has cooled. White House confirmed that officials from there and executives from FOX met and reportedly have called a “truce”.
